Cookie law events sold out

Two events happening this week in London, UK surrounding UK cookie laws and UK cookie compliance.

The "sold out" status for both events is a good indication that UK businesses are starting to seek out the latest information on how to work cookie compliance into their digital strategies come May 26, 2012 and beyond.


The New Data Protection Directive & Cookie Compliance

The New Data Protection Directive & Cookie Compliance" breakfast briefing, hosted by Simon Morrissey, with guest speaker Meriel Lenfestey.

Meriel is a partner at Foolproof, Europe’s largest User Experience Company. After working at Microsoft and the BBC, and then as the founder of Flow Interactive, Meriel has been at the forefront of user experience design for nearly 20 years, designing great customer experiences around technical, legal, commercial and content challenges. She has recently been working with several National and Global brands on responding to the EU cookies Directive.

The breakfast briefing will cover:

PA Cookie Law Update Breakfast Seminar 2012

Further to its seminar in June 2011, the IPA is hosting a free update breakfast seminar on the Regulations and new ICO guidance on 22nd February .

Dave Evans, Group Manager, Business & Industry, Information Commissioner's Office , will address IPA members to explain:

- the ICO’s new Guidance on the Regulations,
- what IPA members can do to try and ensure that they and their clients are compliant.

Will Blomefield, Regulatory Affairs Manager, Advertising Association , will update IPA members about the self-regulatory initiatives for Online Behavioural Advertising that are being developed by industry. Will has been heavily involved at both European and UK levels in the pan-industry steering group that developed the Best Practice Recommendation on OBA and is leading the process of implementing the self-regulatory initiative for OBA into the ASA system.

After the address, Dave Evans, Will Blomefield, Richard Lindsay (IPA Legal Director) and Nigel Gwilliam (IPA Digital Consultant) will offer the audience the opportunity to ask questions.

Data Protection European Framework

According to the event website:

The European Commission will shortly publish its proposals for a Regulation which will significantly alter European data protection law. A revised European data protection law will have implications for any organisation that handles information about individuals, be this information about clients, customers members of the public, employees or business contacts. Changes to the law are likely to include stronger rights for individuals and penalties for non-compliance based on a percentage of global turnover.

Taylor Wessing will run a breakfast seminar on 28 March 2012 covering:

- the key changes proposed to European data protection law
- the implications
- how businesses can make their voice heard during the consultation process
- what happens next.
